Roy L. Stobaugh

Mr. Stobaugh was born July 15, 1917 in Choctaw, Van Buren County, Arkansas, son of Mark L. and
Lillian (Huie) Stobaugh. He graduated in 1935 from the Clinton State Vocational Training School at
Clinton, Arkansas, and subsequently attended Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway. In 1940,
Mr. Stobaugh taught in the public school of Davis Township, Van Buren County. He married Wilma
Laverne West on May 9, 1941, and they began a teaching career that took them to Cherry Valley, and
Turrell, where Mr. Stobaugh was Superintendent . He earned the MA Degree at Memphis State in
1955, after which he accepted the position of superintendent for the Hughes School System in 1959.
During his time at Hughes, he also served as president of the Hughes Rotary Club, as a steward in the
Methodist Church. Professionally he served on the AEA board, the Advisory Council on Secondary
Education, as treasurer of Area 7 Athletic Association, and president of the District 3B Athletic
Association. He was also a member of PTA, NEA, AEA, and Schoolmasters. After retirement in 1982, Mr.
and Mrs. Stobaugh moved to Conway, Arkansas, where he passed on January 20, 1994, interment in
Hunter Hill Cemetery, Clinton, Arkansas.
