Reverend Ransom A. Teeter was the first male teacher for the Hughes School System. He was born
April 1, 1889 at Pottsville, Pope County, Arkansas, son of James Lawson Teeter and Sarah Ellen
(Brooks) Teeter. He married Mary Gladys Greer at Hughes on October 1, 1919, and he began teaching
the older students in the fall of 1920. He probably had a very busy time at the beginning of that school
year, as their son, R.A. Jr., was born at Hughes on September 17, 1920. By 1922, Rev. Teeter was
serving as the Methodist Minister at Tyronza, Poinsett County. He served that church until 1924. He
subsequently served as the Methodist minister at Stephens in Ouachita County, Mena in Sevier
County, and Fordyce in Dallas County. He eventually settled at Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he died
December 4, 1959, interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park, Baton Rouge.
