| Miss Swann was born in Pope County, Arkansas, to James Alfred Swann and Pink (Lewis) Swann. She received her higher education at Henderson Brown College at Arkadelphia, Arkansas, graduating in 1910. According to Miss Julia McKemie’s “A Brief History of the Hughes School,” Miss Swann joined the faculty in 1921, and she was on staff through 1922. She married October 16, 1922 at Little Rock to Mr. Charles W. Johnson, and they lived in DesArc for a number of years. They moved to Hot Springs, where they lived in retirement until he died. She continued living there for over thirty years until she broke her hip at Christmas time in 1987. She was moved to a nursing home in Camden in 1988, where she died on her 97th birthday, burial in London Cemetery, Pope County, Arkansas. |
