Mary Jane (Sanders) Baddour Chandler
October 20, 1919 – February 15, 2010

Miss Sanders graduated from Mississippi State College for Women in 1941, after which she accepted
a position at Hughes High School to teach commercial subjects and physical education. It was while
serving on the HHS faculty that she met and married Hughes resident Paul Baddour, founder of Fred’s
Dollar Stores, and they moved to Memphis, Tennessee.  After Mr. Baddour died, she married Aubry
Chandler. She was a member of Christ Methodist Church of Memphis, and she served as a Pink Lady
at Methodist Hospital in Memphis. In addition, Mrs. Chandler delivered Meals on Wheels in
Whitehaven, and she was active in the Whitehaven Women’s Club, the Whitehaven Garden Club, and
she was an avid bridge player, achieving Life Member status. She was a board member and a life long
supporter of the Baddour Center, a residential facility in Senatobia, Mississippi, for the intellectually
disabled. Mrs. Chandler died February 15, 2010 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi in
Oxford, burial in Forrest Hill Cemetery Midtown, Memphis.
