Miss Flood was born September 28, 1898 in Stamps, Lafayette County, Arkansas, daughter of James
and Victoria Jane (Weeks) Flood. Miss Flood’s association with the Hughes faculty occurred in the
spring of 1921 when she finished the school year for Mrs. Alice (Moore) Tucker, who had recently
married school board member T.H. Tucker. Miss Flood married William Edward Underwood at Hughes
on June 22, 1921, but the marriage was short-lived as Mr. Underwood died in 1928, leaving Delle with
a daughter, Mary Evelyn, born April 13, 1923 at Hughes. She eventually moved to the District of
Columbia, where she married on November 18, 1939, to Mervyn Edwin Libby, a native of Maine, and a
veteran of WWI, having served with the United States Marines. Mr. and Mrs. Libby eventually settled
in Florida, where he died June 1, 1974 in Dade County, and she died July 28, 1976 at Ft. Lauderdale,
Broward County. Mrs. Libby was a sister of Mrs. C.W. Hulen, also a Hughes teacher.
