| Miss Hill was born in Berryville, Carroll County, Arkansas, to William Raney Hill and Ethel (Doxie) Hill. She is mentioned in the 1929 edition of the Hughes Outlook as a “teacher of expression.” The 1930 Census for Hughes reveals she was teaching with a two-year college certification, which was the norm in those days. Miss Hill possibly taught at Hughes for three years, after which she married George Monroe Coleman, Jr., in Crittenden County on May 19, 1933, and they settled in West Memphis, where she served as postmistress for a while before resuming her teaching career in the West Memphis School System. She was a Christian Scientist in belief. Mrs. Coleman retired to The Village at Springdale, Arkansas, where she died November 14, 1991, burial next to her husband in the Crittenden Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion. |
