| Miss Porter was born at Roe, Monroe County, Arkansas, daughter of Atlas Alfred Porter and Ruth (Gean) Porter. She first appears as a Hughes High School faculty member in the September 13, 1946 issue of the Student Printz. It is not known how long she served at HHS, but it is known that by 1952 she had moved to McCrory, Arkansas, where she married Ardith Franklin Crownover on December 2 of that year, and that they settled first in Memphis, where their two children were born. They eventually moved to Poplar Bluff, Missouri, where Mrs. Crownover served twenty years as a social worker for the school system there. During that time, she participated in the Governor’s Council on Juvenile Delinquency, and on one occasion gave testimony at a murder trial involving a former student. Mrs. Crownover died at Poplar Bluff on December 28, 2002. |
