Hughes Public School 1911-1912
|
In 1912 the unincorporated community of Hughes saw the need for a school. A school board
was formed, and a building was located for the first school. The school board was made up
of community leaders and included Arthur Spivey, Charles P. McEwen, and R. C. Nickle as
president. The first school building was a small frame house located near what is now known
as the corner of Main St. & Bush St. The first teacher was Miss Ernestine Vance. Miss
Vance operated the school until 1914.
