| Clara Jane Moses April 13, 1913 – December 31, 1985 Elementary Principal Tenure: 1951 - 1966 |
| Miss Moses was born April 13, 1913 in Conway County, Arkansas, daughter of William Joshua Moses and Mattie E. (Norwood) Moses. She acquired the M.A. and Ed.S. Degree from George Peabody College, and she served the Hughes School System as an elementary classroom teacher and principal until 1966. During her time at Hughes, Miss Moses researched and wrote a book about Hughes entitled “An Informal History of Hughes, Arkansas,” which was published by the Crittenden Publishing Company. She was also an experienced international traveler. After her retirement, Miss Moses moved to Pine Bluff, Arkansas, where she took a job in that school system. The next year, Miss Ida Turnage moved to Pine Bluff, and she and Miss Moses bought a home together. Miss Moses died on December 31, 1985, from injuries received in an auto accident, burial in Springfield Cemetery, Conway County, Arkansas. |
