| Miss Conditt was born November 20, 1908 , at Tuckerman, Jackson County, Arkansas, daughter of Rufus Lindley Conditt and Georgia Louella (Harrison) Conditt. She attended Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway, and she appears in the 1930 Census as a public school teacher in the Hughes School System. Miss Conditt married Joseph Hobson “Jody” Mosby, Jr., of Dallas, Texas, on April 2, 1934, at Tuckerman, after which they relocated to Dallas for Joseph’s career as a cotton buyer. Following World War II, Mrs. Mosby began substitute teaching in various Dallas schools. Although she had taught in Arkansas, she lacked a few credits to become a fully certified teacher in Texas, so she entered North Texas State College at Denton and acquired her bachelor’s degree in 1960. She continued her education at the same institution, renamed North Texas State University, and earned her masters in 1969. Mrs. Mosby spent the remainder of her career teaching fifth grade at Jefferson Davis Elementary. According to her obituary, she “believed firmly that each child had a right to an education and that she had a responsibility to see that each was prepared.” She retired from teaching shortly after her husband’s death in 1974. Mrs. Mosby died December 23, 2005, at the age of 97. She passed away at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, after suffering a stroke, interment in the Restland Memorial Park Cemetery. She was a sister of Eugenie Jo (Conditt) Deal, also a Hughes teacher. |
