Mrs. Arthur was born October 30, 1921 at Earle, Crittenden County, Arkansas, daughter of Dan and
Mabel “Minnie” (McCollum) Sample. She received her M.A. Degree from George Peabody College for
Teachers, and she taught public school for twenty-five years, most of which she spent as the high
school English teacher at Hughes High School. Mrs. Arthur was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma
sorority, enjoyed volunteer work at the Public Library and Museum of Earle, and was a member of the
Earle Baptist Church, where she participated in missionary work and taught Sunday school. She died
at the White River Medical Center in Batesville, Arkansas, on October 17, 2009, interment in
Crittenden Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion, Arkansas.
